Biography
Melva E. Pinn-Bingham, MD is a Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist with extensive experience in the treatment of a broad range of cancers using advanced radiation therapy techniques. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to combining clinical excellence and technological precision with compassionate, individualized care.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Pinn-Bingham graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry and concentration in Neuroscience. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and completed her Radiation Oncology residency at the University of California, Irvine, where she served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Pinn-Bingham has extensive clinical experience with advanced radiation oncology techniques, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), and High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy. Her experience includes the use of highly specialized radiation technologies to treat both intracranial and extracranial malignancies while maximizing treatment precision and minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
Her academic work has contributed to the radiation oncology literature through multiple peer-reviewed journal publications, clinical research, and national scientific presentations. Her published research has addressed topics including high-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer, stereotactic radiosurgery for central nervous system tumors, radiation therapy in patients with connective tissue disorders, and other areas of radiation oncology. Her work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed oncology journals, including the International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics and Radiotherapy and Oncology, and has been presented at national scientific meetings.
In addition to her clinical and academic experience, Dr. Pinn-Bingham has held a number of physician leadership and professional service roles throughout her career. She has served on cancer service-line strategic planning, medical quality and patient safety, and institutional cancer committees. She has also maintained professional involvement with organizations including the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), and the National Medical Association (NMA).
Throughout her career, Dr. Pinn-Bingham has been committed to helping patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and what to expect throughout therapy. She believes excellent cancer care requires more than sophisticated technology—it requires clear communication, careful clinical judgment, compassion, and a strong physician-patient relationship.
Her professional experience has also included collaboration with hospitals and healthcare organizations to strengthen oncology services and expand access to high-quality cancer care, particularly in communities where specialized oncology resources may be limited.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Pinn-Bingham values family and community. She and her husband are the proud parents of three children. Her experiences as a physician, wife, and mother continue to shape the perspective and compassion she brings to her work.
