Biography

Dr. Jia is board-certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. Before joining VOA, she was a Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University.

Dr. Jia received her medical degree from Beijing Medical University and her PhD degree in Immunology from Duke University. After completing her internal medicine residency at East Carolina University, she returned to Duke for a hematology-oncology fellowship and remained on the faculty before moving to UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Jia's clinical and academic research is dedicated to advancing multidisciplinary care for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies, including cancers of the esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, pancreas, liver, and bile ducts. Through her work, she has contributed to advancing the understanding and treatment of these complex diseases.

She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on gastrointestinal cancers, helping to shape current understanding and treatment approaches. Recognized for her expertise in gastrointestinal oncology and scientific contributions, she is a sought-after invited speaker at regional and national oncology conferences. She has also served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Scientific Program Committee, helping to develop the annual ASCO meeting scientific program agenda.

During her free time, Dr. Jia enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
