Biography

Dr. Alberico is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. He has practiced medicine with Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) since 1986. His keen interest in advancing cancer care has contributed greatly to the success of VOA’s cancer clinical research program.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Alberico served as Medical Oncologist/Hematologist at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, and as Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine for the Medical College of Hampton Roads, Eastern Virginia Medical School. He also served as Cancer Committee Chairman, Chief of Hematology-Oncology, and Director of the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
 
Dr. Alberico earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology, Magna Cum laude, and English, with Honors, concurrently while attending West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia. He also received his Medical Doctor degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, West Virginia. His Internal Medicine and Behavioral Medicine/Psychiatry residencies, Hematology/Oncology subspecialty residency and Research Fellowship were completed at University of Virginia Hospitals, Charlottesville, Virginia.
 
In addition to being voted Top Oncologist and Top Hematologist by his peers for the last ten years, published in Coastal Virginia Magazine, Dr. Alberico has received the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation’s Beecham Award, as well as the American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship Award.
His research efforts have been extended in editorial to manuscripts and clinical publications, including Blood and The Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, et al. He has presented clinical study data at annual meetings for the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
 
Dr. Alberico remains an active member of the Virginia Society of Hematology-Oncology, American Cancer Society Virginia Beach Unit’s Board of Directors, Norfolk Academy of Medicine, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American College of Physicians. He has formerly been designated President of the American Cancer Society’s Virginia Beach Chapter; he was a member of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Board of Directors.
