Biography
Dr. Alencar is a hematologist-oncologist with extensive clinical, academic, and research experience in cancer care. She earned her medical degree from the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil and went on to serve as a family physician in Brazil’s National Family Health Program for three years.
She later moved to the United States, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami, followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. During her fellowship, Dr. Alencar was actively involved in research, including studies using murine embryonic stem cells. She has authored numerous abstracts and publications in hematology and oncology.
Dr. Alencar practiced as a hematologist-oncologist in Ashland, Kentucky, and also served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Christus University in Brazil. She is currently involved in clinical research at Virginia Oncology Associates and serves as principal investigator on multiple breast cancer clinical trials.
Her clinical interests include breast cancer, lung cancer, and blood cancers. Dr. Alencar is dedicated to providing personalized, evidence-based cancer care and to offering patients access to the latest advances through participation in clinical trials.
