Biography

Rachel McBride is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, patient-centered care at Virginia Oncology Associates, where she is committed to delivering personalized cancer treatment with empathy and excellence. She brings a diverse clinical background and a deep understanding of oncology and palliative care, helping patients and their families navigate complex diagnoses with clarity, support, and compassion.

Rachel earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Simmons University. She graduated as valedictorian from the Community College of Rhode Island’s nursing program and has consistently demonstrated excellence in both clinical practice and patient advocacy throughout her career.

Her professional experience includes working in the oncology unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and serving as a Nurse Practitioner in outpatient palliative care. These roles have shaped her holistic approach to care—addressing not only the medical needs of her patients, but also their emotional well-being, physical comfort, and overall quality of life. She is also certified in chemotherapy administration and stem-cell therapy, bringing specialized expertise to her oncology practice.

Rachel strongly believes in collaboration and communication as key elements of effective care. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure each patient receives comprehensive, individualized treatment aligned with their goals. Her background in education and community outreach, combined with her clinical experience, allows her to clearly explain treatment options and empower patients to make informed decisions about their care.

In addition to her oncology work, Rachel has a special interest in Type 1 diabetes research, inspired by the impact autoimmune disease has had on her family. She is passionate about advancing understanding and improving outcomes for individuals affected by these conditions.

As an active member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, Rachel remains engaged in ongoing professional development and advancements in patient care.

Outside of her professional life, Rachel enjoys spending time with her four children, paddle boarding, playing board games, hiking, going to the beach, and walking her two goldendoodles. She deeply values serving her family and community, bringing the same compassion and dedication to her personal life as she does to her patients.
