Dr. Kessler was born in Charleston, West Virginia, and attended Marshall University and then West Virginia University School of Medicine where he graduated with an M.D. degree. After fulfilling a three year Internal Medicine residency at Charleston Area Medical Center, he completed a three year hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Arizona School of Health Sciences. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Kessler has been honorably discharged from the United States Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is a member of the American Society of Hematologists, American Society of Clinical Oncologists, and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. He actively supports participation in clinical research through pharmaceutical and cooperative group programs. Current hobbies include white water kayaking, fly-fishing and zymurgy. Dr. Kessler is with the Virginia Oncology Associates practice in Newport News, Virginia.
