A graduate of the University of Virginia. After
completing one year of residency, he served in
the United States Air Force as the chief of Flight
Medicine at the USAF Hospital, Scott Air Force
Base, Illinois. Dr. Burger completed his residency
at Barnes Hospital and fellowships in Hematology
and Oncology at Washington University School of
Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a member
of several professional organizations including
the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, The American
Association of Clinical Oncology, the American
Society of Hematology, and a fellow of the American
College of Physicians. He was the first president
of the Virginia Association of Hematologists and
Oncologists, and has served on the Clinical Practice
Committees of the American Society of Clinical
Oncology and American Society of Hematology. He
is an associate professor of Medicine at Eastern
Virginia Medical School.
